Director and founder of Dancecapade Performing Arts Center

Ms. Alice Chien is the director and founder of Dancecapade Performing Arts Center. She has been teaching and choreographing in Southern California for the past 20 years.

Growing up in the Walnut/Diamond Bar area, she has danced with the Walnut High School Dance Team, USC Dance Force and continued her dance career with the World Champion Los Angeles Laker Girls from 1999 - 2003.

She was trained at many dance studios including EDGE Performing Arts Center in Hollywood and Defore Dance Center in Orange County. She is also a dance judge for United Spirit Association (USA) and American Championships Dance Competitions.

Being a professional dancer, you may have seen her in Fox Sports Commercials, Bette Midler Show, Showtime Dreams, The Best Damn Sports Show, Monday Night Live, Jamie Kennedy, NBA Inside Stuff, and the Donny and Marie Show.

Other than being involved in the professional dance industry, Ms. Alice is also a certified Yoga Alliance instructor and AFAA® fitness instructor. She also volunteers at local schools to promote her love for dance and hopes to inspire more to dance. She continues to bring the best in the fitness and dance industries to her students.


Teaches Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, and Competition Teams

Ms. Alessa has been dancing since the age of 2. She has been able to share her love of dance, as she has been a teacher/ choreographer for almost 12 years. She has received many choreography awards over the years, and her Character dance routine for Claremont High School received 1st place at the USA Dance Drill Nationals in 2013. Training with many professionals in the industry like Mandy Moore, Mark Meismer, Ryan Lohoff, and Gregg Russell.

Graduating in 2007, she attended the Orange County High School of The Arts where her focused was Commercial Dance. She has done many guest performances at places like Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, the Queen Mary, and Hollywood Vibe Dance Competition. Following her love of dance, she performed with the San Francisco Ballet, and was a lead dancer in the North Orange County Youth Ballet Company for 2 years.

She can be seen in Debbie Allen’s musical “Alex In Wonderland,” and in a music video with Rob Zombie titled, “Foxy Foxy.” Alessa is currently a core member of Rithem Dance Company. Dance is her passion and she enjoys sharing her gift with others.

Teaches Tap

Ms. Clarissa is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area and began dancing with Berle Davis and Jayne Zaban at Dance Arts Center and later attended Chapman University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in Dance with a minor in Japanese language. She is also an alumna of the School at Jacob’s Pillow inaugural tap program where she studied with Dianne Walker, Derick Grant, Ray Hesselink, Harold Cromer, Sarah Reich, and Tasha Lawson.

Her choreography was featured in the critically acclaimed West Coast regional premiere of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson at San Jose Stage Company. Past Bay Area performing credits include Buffalo’ed (world prem.) Cabaret, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Chicago, The King and I, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Peter Pan. She was also a member of the tap company Tap Overload and performed their full length show Office Beat for two seasons at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. She has also performed in various shows and parades at the Disneyland Resort such as Mickey’s Soundsational Parade, A Christmas Fantasy Parade, Fantasmic!, and Paint the Night. Clarissa is also an accomplished stage manager, having worked with companies such as Ballet San Jose, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, and the Disneyland Resort.

Teaches Jazz, Ballet, Tap and Tumbling

Ms. Beth Lawson started dancing when she was 4 years old. She has trained in many types of dance including Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Musical Theater, Hip Hop, and Tumbling. She has also competed in many different regional and national competitions receiving top awards. In 1996, she performed in the Jerry Lewis Telethon as one of the “Anita Mann Dancers” that aired on CBS. In the spring of 2001, she participated in a professional invitational dance competition, "Dance under the Stars", in Palm Desert where her group tied for first place. She also has performed in numerous performances at the “Teddy Bear Tea” and Dicken’s Festival” in Riverside that benefits the Riverside Children’s Hospital. Beth also attended the “Jose Limon Summer Intensive” with a scholarship in the summer of 2009.

Ms. Beth graduated from Cal-State Fullerton with a BA in Dance and a BFA in Graphic Design. She performed in many concerts with the Cal-State Fullerton Dance Department including “Tribute to the Beatles”, “Spring and Fall Dance Concerts”, and “12x16” to name a few. She was also a part of CSUF repertory company where she got to perform in the prestigious ACDFA conference at Cal State Long Beach.

Teaches Hip Hop and Break Dancing at Dancecapade

Geo’s journey with dance began in Taiwan when he and his friends would meet up and practice moves after school. Moving to California after graduating high school, he attended the University of California, Irvine, where his interest and passion for dance grew. He became a member of one of Southern California’s leading hip-hop teams Kaba Modern, where he competed in competitions such as Vibe, Fusion, Body Rock and Hip Hop International. During this time, he also competed with his b-boy crew Instant Noodles, which composed of his high school friends and a second generation of b-boys who were also from Taipei American School. Instant Noodles continued to build their reputation through competitions and underground b-boy battles and found success in being chosen as one of the crews to compete on America’s Best Dance Crew Season 6. With a successful top 5 run they were able to travel to teach and perform through various festivals, conventions, and events throughout the country. Geo has also competed individually in Red Bull BC One cypher San Diego, and has danced for the Vietnamese top entertainment show Paris By Night. He continues to train as a b-boy and build his hip-hop choreography style, and is signed with dance agency Go 2 Talent Agency.

Teaches Creative Dance, Ballet/Tap Combo, Jazz, Lyrical and Advanced Techniques

Hayley is from Murrieta, California and has been dancing since the age of three in the styles of jazz, lyrical, ballet, hip hop, contemporary, tap, and pom. She started competing at the age of six and at the age of ten she continued her training and competing at Murrieta Dance Project. She won numerous awards over the years that she competed and found the love of teaching and choreographing at the age of seventeen.

After graduating high school, she was accepted to California State University, Fullerton where she danced with nationally ranked dance team for 4 years. She has graduated from CSUF with a degree in child development. Currently, she is working on her teaching credential to become an elementary school teacher. In the meantime, she is a NFL cheerleader for the Los Angeles Rams.

Kathy Duran is from Corona, California and has over 20 years of dance experience. She has trained in styles such as Modern, Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Tumbling, Cheer, Hip Hop, Musical Theater and Swing and graduated summa cum laude from California State University Fullerton with her BA in Dance. While receiving her education, Kathy performed nationwide with CSUF’s Dance Repertoire Company and had the privilege of working with artists and choreographers including Debra Noble, Gladys Kares, Viktor Kabaniev, Rob Kitsos, Roxanne D’Orleans Juste, Risa Steinberg, Colin Connor, Marie de la Palme and more. Kathy received her Pilates Certification from Body Arts and Science International and enjoys teaching Pilates to dancers as well as people of all ages and levels. Kathy also maintains her career as a professional dancer, dancing with BackhausDance, an internationally performing modern contemporary dance company based in Orange County, Ca.

Teaches Ballet and Pointe

Mariah is a southern California native and began studying ballet under the direction of Evette Demarco Swinson, former principal with Los Angeles ballet. In her elementary years, Mariah was a featured soloist in the Youth America Grand Prix ballet competition. She performed as a New York City Finalist for four consecutive years. Mariah joined Inland Pacific Ballet in 2009 and danced in many ballets such as Swan Lake, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, The Nutcracker, and Beauty and the Beast. Mariah was accepted to many ballet summer intensives and attended Pacific Northwest Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and Gelsey Kirkland Ballet’s summer programs on awarded scholarships.

Mariah continued to train closely with Gelsey Kirkland, known for her work with George Balanchine at New York City Ballet, and her partnership with Mikael Baryshnikov at American Ballet Theater. Mariah performed professionally in New York City with Gelsey Kirkland’s studio company in various ballets such as The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Harlequinade, Swan Lake, and Calvary Halt. Mariah currently lives in Southern California and teaches ballet with a strong emphasis on true classical ballet technique in the vagonova style.

Ms. Miranda received her training at Inland Pacific Ballet Academy, as well as through summer intensive programs she attended on scholarship, including Long Beach Ballet Arts Center, Ballet Pacifica, and Boston Ballet. Her performance repertoire is composed of various classical and contemporary ballets including: Giselle, Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Dracula, Tolerance, The Other Side, and Balanchine's Serenade, Stars and Stripes, and Theme and Variations.

Miranda has also recently utilized ballet off-stage, appearing in a commercial for The Westin Long Beach and Modeling for LA designer Kao Pao Shu. She continued her rigorous dance training while attending Azusa Pacific University as a scholarship student, earning a Bachelor's Degree with Honors in Communication Studies.

Teaches Jazz, Tap, Jazz Funk and Competition Teams

Valerie began dancing at the age of 3, training in jazz, ballet, hip-hop, tap, lyrical, and contemporary. She has won numerous awards at dance competitions including KAR Miss Teen Dance, Top Elite Solo, convention scholarships, and other top awards. She was also signed with a LA dance, acting, and modeling agent at the age of 10 and signed with the Kidz Bop Kids at age 13 starring in their TV commercials but traveled doing live performances and events. She has been featured in over twenty commercials and has had modeled for places like Target, Sears, and Macy's.

Valerie graduated from California Sate University, Fullerton where she obtained her Bachelors of Science Degree in Child and Adolescent Development. She was also on the 16-Time Nationally Ranked Championship Dance Team with CSU Fullerton. She is currently a professional NFL Cheerleader for the Los Angeles Rams and attends the University of Redlands where she will be obtaining her masters and teaching credential.
